Indian Head Massage is part of the Ayurvedic system of healing which has been practised in India for over a thousand years. In the west it has been modified to add neck, upper back and shoulders. Traditionally, you would remain fully clothed and seated upright on a low backed chair where your head, neck and upper back are worked on without oils. However, Janice recommends the treatment on the comfortable massage chair which tilts you forward to allow fuller access to your upper back and neck and essential oils blended with a carrier oil are used.
How it can help: The treatment itself is a combination of stimulating and soothing strokes which increase blood flow and release tense muscles and clear mental fatigue, and is particularly suited to computer users who sit hunched for long periods of time and, as a result, suffer headaches and neck ache caused by a build up of tension in the neck, shoulders and head. You may also experience a sudden increase in energy together with a renewed sense of flexibility in your neck and shoulders which is associated with the increase of blood to the head and neck.
